Some holiday celebrations are harmful for pets

The Jacksonville Humane Society (JHS) is encouraging families to keep pets safe this Fourth of July weekend.   

“While fireworks and parties are Independence Day traditions that many people enjoy, Fourth of July celebrations are scary for some animals,” said Danya Parks-Freel, director of operations at JHS.  “Many pets go missing or suffer severe injuries during Fourth of July celebrations, so it is important pet owners take precautions to ensure the safety of their pets.”

Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront’s Annual 4th of July Bash on Monday, July 4th from 7:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. is a perfect opportunity for the entire family to come out and rock the night away with a front-row seat to Jacksonville’s fireworks spectacular. The event will feature Spanky the Band, one of Jacksonville’s premiere rock bands, with food and beverages bountifully available. TODAY: Save Our Sports in Duval County Telethon

The Save Our Sports In Duval County Campaign is designed to raise the funds needed to re-implement the high school sports that have been cut due to budget constraints by the Duval County Public School (DCPS) system for the next school year.

On June 29, Sports Talk Radio 1010XL in partnership with DCPS, and several local sports organizations will be holding a telethon to solicit donations to save the twelve high school sports that have been cut - boys and girls junior varsity soccer, boys and girls lacrosse, boys and girls tennis, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls golf, wrestling, and slow pitch softball.

This Saturday, the Riverside Arts Market (RAM) is hosting the Tobacco-Free Jacksonville Coalition, which will provide games, and education designed to help create a healthy, tobacco-free future. The Coalition will set up various informational and educational booths near the Hilltop Stage, and will be recognizing key businesses and organizations for their tobacco-free efforts.
