 Friday, February 3, 2012 is National Wear Red Day and February is American Heart Month. The American Heart Association- First Coast Market is participating in and/or hosting a number of public events listed below. Why is this important? The Facts are Clear– More women die of heart disease than all forms of cancer combined. Unfortunately, the killer isn’t as easy to see. Many times heart disease is often silent, hidden and misunderstood.

Influenza (the flu) is a dangerous disease that takes the lives of thousands of people in the United States every year—and causes more than 200,000 people to be hospitalized. Anyone can get sick from the flu and spread the virus to others. Increases in flu activity are expected soon as the flu season gets underway.

St. Vincent’s Clay County Announces Construction Update

St. Vincent’s HealthCare has completed the site planning process and is submitting road plans to Clay County to begin the permitting process for its new hospital in Clay County, to be called St. Vincent’s Medical Center Clay County.  Our plans include the widening of Brannan Field Road in front of the property to accommodate extra turn lanes for traffic flow. The goal is to improve access to the hospital and adjacent medical office building.  Our next step is to submit plans for a site work permit, followed by the final building plans to both Clay County and the Agency for Healthcare Administration in Tallahassee in May.

The American Lung Association’s State of Tobacco Control 2012 report was released today. The report showed that Florida received mixed grades on important tobacco issues, such as smoking cessation coverage and smokefree air laws. 

St. Vincent’s HealthCare Announces Contract with Humana

St. Vincent’s HealthCare is proud to announce it has signed a new contract with Humana, Florida’s largest Medicare health benefits company.  The network agreement gives more than 10,000 Humana Medicare Advantage HMO members in Northeast Florida access to St. Vincent’s HealthCare doctors, programs and facilities.
