Man fought off intruder during home invasion

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-- A homeowner is in the hospital after being attacked during a home invasion. Sgt. CB Shivers with The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said the incident occurred around 2 a.m. Thursday morning in the 2500 block of Post Street in Riverside.

First Coast News talked to the neighbor who called 911. Willie Johnson said he just got home from work when he heard a man knocking on his neighbor's door. Johnson identified his neighbor as 63-year-old Henry Scott. He said the suspect asked Scott to use his restroom and Scott let him in. Johnson said he then heard screaming coming from next door and he called 911.

Johnson says the man was asking for money and hit Scott in the face with an ashtray.

When JSO got to the house, the fight was still in progress. The suspect was taken into police custody.

Scott was taken to an area hospital. Johnson said it sounded like the two knew each other but he had never seen the man.
