Waste water under rental home causing stinky situation | News
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Plenty of finger pointing surrounds waste water and what appears to be toilet paper beneath a rental home in Riverside.
Joel Turner says he is tired of the smell and frustrated that nothing is being done.
On Monday, the rental manager of the four apartments on Cherry Street tackled the problems to make repairs, saying poor communication explains everything.
The tenant who got the city involved says all he wants is a home free of smell.
"Pipes not put together right, raw sewage ... smells real bad, there are flies," said Turner who said an exposed pipe draining water has been there since he moved in last August.
Property manager Adrian Lofton says he thought the problem had been corrected after Turner called a company to make repairs that were paid for by the owner.
"I thought the problem had been fixed, yes," said Lofton donning a white jumper as he prepared to crawl under the off-grade home.
An email provided by Turner states that a city code officer inspected the property in early March and determined the drain pipe was not related to sewer or waste water. The same communication shows the case was closed in late April after the officer did not receive any additional information from the involved parties.
Lofton, who spent Monday afternoon making repairs, says the problem will be fixed.
Turner is hoping that happens, but isn't holding his breath, saying he has been told before that repairs would be made.
