SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 22, 2012

JACKSONVILLE FARMERS MARKET: Open every day of the year, dawn to dusk, save up to 70% or more on NE Florida's largest & fresh selection of local, ethnic, and specialty produce, agricultural and other food products. It's free to attend. The farmer's market runs this Saturday from 7 a.m. through 7 p.m.

4TH ANNUAL AVONDALE 5K CLASSIC: The 4th Annual Avondale 5K Classic is Saturday at 8 a.m. at the Shops of Historic Avondale. The race will benefit the Sanctuary on 8th Street, celebrating 20 years of providing a safe haven for children in Springfield. The race is conducted by 1st Place Sports and will include the 5K at 8:30 a.m. and a 1-Mile Fun Run at 8 a.m. Entry fee is $25 for 5K; $15 for Fun Run. PURPLE STRIDE 2012 FOR PANCREATIC CANCER: Come join us for Purple Stride 2012 at the Jacksonville Beach Seawalk Pavilion Saturday, September 22, Jacksonville Beach 5K timed run and 1-mile fun run, plus music, children's activities, refreshments and more! QUILTFEST JACKSONVILLE 2012: QuiltFest is an open judged show. Over 400 quilts, Silent Auction, Quilt Sale Booth, Quilter's Walk, Kids Corner, Free Demonstrations, Charity Corner, Vendors and Quilt Appraiser. It's at the Prime Osborn Convention Center Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

COMMUNITY GARDEN BUILD: Join The Community Gardens' group of the First Coast as they build a brand-new garden in one day. Time-lapse cameras will be used to record the entire build, enabling the group to create a stunning movie of the entire project from start to finish. It's Saturday at a vacant lot off 8th Street in Jacksonville Beach from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring your shovels, seedlings, and get to gardening!

2012 FIRST COAST HEART WALK: The 2012 Heart Walk will be held Saturday at Metropolitan Park starting at 9 a.m. Dollars raised through the Heart Walk fund critical research, education and community programs to help combat heart disease and stroke, the No. 1 and No. 4 health threats to American men and women.

HEMOPHILIA WALK: The Hemophilia Foundation of Greater Florida, a Chapter of the National Hemophilia Foundation, has been helping people with bleeding disorders since 1996. To register for the Jacksonville Fall Walk for Bleeding Disorder, click here. It starts at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

KAREN'S RIDE TO REMEMBER: Sign up begins at 8 a.m. Saturday. Kickstands go up at 10 a.m. Ride down A1A through historic downtown Fernandina Beach, head south on scenic Heckscher Drive, north on Hwy. 17 and then back to Murray's Grille for the After Party! Five stops along the way with drawings at each stop. Back to Murray's Grille for a 50/50 raffle, silent auction, and BBQ open to the public for $10 starting at 5 p.m. It's $25 per rider and includes T-shirt and BBQ and (1) entry into the Grand Prize Drawing plus $15 per passenger includes BBQ. All proceeds to benefit the Walk To End Alzheimer's.

TEN AND UNDER TENNIS WORKSHOP: This workshop is a hands-on, interactive 3.5 hour training, providing an overview of the new format of play for 10 and under tennis players. It starts at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Burnett Park.

MAIN STREET CRUISE-IN: Come and re-live the '60s on Main St. in Historic Springfield on the fourth (fourth, not last!) Saturday of every month. The next cruise is September 22nd with Jacksonville band Bay Street at 4th and Main from 6 to 9 p.m. Head over to Three Layers at 6th and Walnut for Dancing in the Streets after 9 p.m.

ELEPHANT APPRECIATION DAY: Join the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens as they appreciate earth's largest land animal. There will be informational booths, elephant activities, and animal enrichment throughout the day. It runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

JACKSONVILLE TREAT MIXER: Come out and enjoy an afternoon of treat tasting at Dogwood Park off Salisbury Road Saturday starting at 11 a.m. Your dog can sample the many tasty treats Pawfection Bakery has to offer. There will be delicious items from B² Sweets for the humans to sample too. Come down and fill both you and your dog's belly in a delectable afternoon of samples and fun! All proceeds go to Pits Sisters! Cost: $25

NORTH FLORIDA FOLKFEST 2012: Acoustic music festival all day Saturday with over a dozen Florida singer/songwriters at Florida Agricultural Museum in Palm Coast, Performers include Bob Patterson, Ellen Bukstel, Gatorbone, Ron and Mary, Karen Zack. Al Poindexter and RiverRise, Tammerin, James Hawkins, Mike Campbell, Maja Gilana, Jackson Creek, Too Many SmithsTerry Whitehead. NEW HOPE WORLD OUTREACH COLOR EXPLOSION FASHION SHOW: New Hope World Outreach will host a benefit fashion show. Come out and see models from the community strut across the runway for a worthy cause. See the bold colors and fall fashion trends from Dress Barn and Harold's Fine Fashion. Proceeds from the fundraiser will help feed the homeless, provide support services, and continue recapturing our youth through educational and performing arts programs. Tailgate is the ultimate way to experience an away Jaguars game!

H.B.C.U BATTLE OF THE BANDS: The first Camden's Historical Black College University Battle of the Bands, will be held Sunday, September 23, 2012 at 3:00 (gates open at 2:00 p.m.) at the Chris Gilman Football Stadium in Kingsland, GA. This event promotes unity in the community and is a scholarship fundraiser as well as assisting with Advanced Placement testing fees, SAT fees & ACT fees. 2ND ANNUAL RUN FOR HAVEN AT THE CARE FOR CLAY 5K: 2nd Annual Run for Haven at the Care for Clay 5K is hosted by the Orange Park Mall and features a twilight 5K on Sunday at 5 p.m. Your registration fee includes the post-run party with live music, food, drinks, expo booths, awards ceremony and more!
