Sixth annual fundraiser benefits Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals®

 

MINNEAPOLIS—On Thursday, Aug. 11, communities throughout the United States and Canada will make miracles for children during the sixth annual Dairy Queen® Miracle Treat Day. On that day, $1 or more from every Blizzard® Treat sold at participating locations will be donated to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals®, a charity that raises funds for 170 children’s hospitals across the United States and Canada.

Miss America 2011 Teresa Scanlan, a national goodwill ambassador for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, will serve as honorary spokesperson for DQ® Miracle Treat Day. Since 1989, Miss America titleholders have supported Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, helping with fundraising and visiting hospitalized children.

Total of $2,011,991 Raised During Spring Campaign With More Than $102,000 Benefiting Shands Jacksonville and Wolfson Children’s Hospital

 

Jacksonville, FL (July 26, 2011)—Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals® today announced that Publix Super Markets has raised $20 million for children’s hospitals since 1992. Of the total raised in 2011, more than $102,000 has directly benefited Shands Jacksonville and Wolfson Children’s Hospital.

The American Heart Association-First Coast Market has named local business and community leader Joyce Kramzer as the chair for the 2011- 2012 Go Red For Women (GRFW) Mission.

Joyce Kramzer is Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida’s (BCBSF) Senior Vice President, Health Business Operations.  In this role, Kramzer has primary accountability for the business strategies and operations of delivery system, service, senior markets, and IT. In her dual role as the GRFW chair and AHA-First Coast Market Board of Directors Chair, Kramzer brings excellent businesses acumen and a sense of social responsibility.

Senator Bill Nelson to Help Jacksonville Vet Secure Citizenship

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Senator Bill Nelson helped a Jacksonville Iraq War veteran avoid 10 years in prison and deportation.

On Monday, Nelson will meet with Navy Reserves Petty Officer Elisha Dawkins to tell him he'll help Dawkins clear up his citizenship as well.
    
Dawkins was raised in the U.S. but while under investigation, found out he was actually born in the Bahamas.

It turns out Dawkins' mother came to the U. S. from the island nation and settled in Miami before being deported.  Dawkins was allowed to remain here.

After high school, Dawkins decided to join the Army.  Following his time serving in Iraq, Dawkins joined the Navy Reserves and studied at FSCJ to be a nurse.

Show some heART will be held at LIT, a premiere nightclub in Downtown Jacksonville, on July 30, 2011 from 7pm until 10pm.  There is an admission fee of $10.00 a person at the door.  Noone under 21 years of age will be allowed.  This is a gathering for dog lovers to come, enjoy cocktails, view amazing canine artwork from local artists.   Artwork will be available for sale.  There will also be a silent auction.  Proceeds benefit G.R.E.A.T. , Golden Retriever Rescue, which is a 501 (C) (3) non profit organization.  Goodies for the dogs, gift certificates, cocktails, and much more will be given out.  So all of you fellow dog lovers make plans for this wonderful event.  For more information visit www.greatrescue.org .
