On Saturday, May 14th from 11am to 3pm at Underbelly in 5 Points, PB&J (Party, Benefit , & Jam) hosts another community-centered event. This time they've partnered with some of our favorite locally-owned restaurants to create a community picnic.

Belk Charity Event and a Good Reason to Go Shopping!

Belk Spring Charity Sale - Belk will hold its annual Spring Charity Sale this Saturday morning at 6:00 a.m. to benefit local charities, schools and nonprofit organizations throughout the company’s 16-state market area.

A $5 charitable donation gains customers admission to a private sale with merchandise discounts ranging from an extra 20 to 70 percent off on items throughout the store, including special savings on rarely discounted brands. Customers will also receive $5 off their first purchase of $5 or more at the event, and Belk cardholders will receive double Rewards points (and Belk Elite cardholders, triple Rewards points) for card purchases.

Set Sail with Blessing of the Fleet on Sunday, April 17

Calling all boaters!  The City of Jacksonville and Captains’ Club present the 27th annual Blessing of the Fleet, Sunday, April 17 at 2 p.m.  This annual event will feature the blessing of vessels on the Northbank Riverfront of the St. Johns River.

The Blessing of the Fleet is a ceremony similar to those held in the Iberian and Mediterranean regions. The purpose of this annual event is to bless the armada in asking for good weather and safe boating conditions for the upcoming navigational season.

Riverside Avondale Preservation Announces 2011 Spring Tour of Homes, April 16th and 17th

Riverside Avondale Preservation (RAP) presents its 37th Annual Spring Tour of Homes Saturday, April 16th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, April 17th, from noon to 5 p.m. This year’s tour showcases diverse architectural styles and some of the city’s most fascinating homes, including a rare antebellum country house built in 1870 for one of Jacksonville’s most prominent residents, a unique Mission Style home built by hand in 1909 from coquina harvested near St. Augustine, and a Mediterranean Revival Style masterpiece designed by Henry J. Klutho that is recognized as one of the 100 most historically and architecturally significant buildings in Duval County.

Great Cloth Diaper Change Event, April 23

Cloth diapers have come a long way in the past ten years. An event, called the Great Cloth Diaper Change 2011, already creating a buzz not only in North America, but all over the world, will take place on Saturday, April 23, 2011 in locations all around the globe. The Great Cloth Diaper Change (http://www.greatclothdiaperchange.com) will set a world record for the most cloth diapers ever changed simultaneously.

The historic Casa Marina Hotel and Restaurant in Jacksonville Beach has opened their Penthouse Lounge with sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean for lunch service.  Lunch is now available 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.  Previously the lounge opened at 4 p.m. for cocktails and appetizers.

 

Chef Aaron Webb has designed a New Beach Cuisine menu for the penthouse luncheon that includes appetizers such as polenta sticks, salads including a goat cheese salad, sandwiches such as the chicken caesar wrap in herb tortilla and the mahi calypso. Sandwich prices start at $7.95 and entrees start at $11.95.

 

Neiman Marcus is Coming to Jacksonville

The glamour, attitude and hype of the fashion world comes to Jacksonville April 7th when Neiman Marcus Orlando stages Runway to Dignity 2011 to benefit Dignity U Wear.  The event by the upscale retailer will feature spring fashions by some of today’s most notable designers, including Escada, Dolce Gabbana, and Roberto Cavalli, among others.

Runway to Dignity will create a high fashion environment under the stars with a clear tent overlooking the St. Johns River, directly in front of The Florida Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts. Event co-chairs, Nan Coyle, Sallyn Pajcic and Jeanne Ward, promise a special evening, with both a pre-show and post-show reception, flowing champagne, great music and extraordinary fashions.
