Photo Gallery | Local Designer Debuts Latest Spring Collection

Thursday evening, local fashion label Mitra hosted a fashion presentation and trunk show of the latest Spring/Summer 2012 collection entitled "coquilles" at Walkers Wine Bar in the Riverside neighborhood of Jacksonville. The event contrasted a traditional fashion show, showcasing ten unique looks within the distinctive environment of Walkers, with models standing and posing on platforms for the duration of the event. Designer Argie Mitra describes "coquilles" as being inspired by seashells, the ocean, and the vibe of a relaxing day at the beach, featuring classic, feminine lines in a soft cream and pink palette punctuated with turquoise and hot pink.

Guests placed orders of their favorite looks from the collection in any size, including custom made-to-measure options. A sample sale of pieces from past collections was also available, along with jewelry from LaFeliciana.com. To complement the collection, hair was whipped up into textural updos with artistry from event sponsor Mindy Stamulis Salon, and models looked fresh with makeup in nudes and pinks, done by makeup artist sponsor Lindsey Jones-Wirht, and artists Amy LaVe' and Stephanie Moore.

Guests enjoyed getting their photo snapped by photography sponsor Mario Peralta Photography in front of vintage sewing patterns by Mitra. Christina Block Photography captured the event with vignettes of makeup artists and hair stylists in action, models getting ready, guests discussing their favorite looks, and more.

A Jacksonville native, designer Argie Mitra graduated from Jacksonville University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and minor in Costume Design. While painting and exhibiting in local art shows, she worked extensively on productions for JU's theatre and dance programs and other community theaters. They were all opportunities honing her sewing skills used to make the custom pieces she designs today.

Established in 2010, the Mitra fashion label is sophistication with a hint of playfulness, and includes artfully inspired ready-to-wear cocktail and formal looks, reflecting select details of historical eras.

Based in Jacksonville, FL, the line offers romantic & contemporary dresses & skirts. All pieces are available in sizes 2-12 or made-to-measure. To see more from Mitra, visit www.dressmitra.com.
